INFLORESCENCE
Meditations in music
By Kim Cunio and Heather Lee
Inflorescence is intended as a series of meditations. Meditation music seems to be mostly transparent. It leads us with calmness and surety into a relaxed state and retreats to allow us to have our own personal experience. Few western music meditation disks contain undue rhythmic or melodic fluctuation as many people feel these are too distracting to their connection. These meditations on the other hand are pieces that offer the same entry to the point of meditation. They are companions, having vital, changeable and fluctuating expressions of volume dynamic and intention. These are above all pieces of music that stand on their own; that walk with us in a personal way; that reveal their secrets one by one.
Inflorescence contains three very different types of music - scored compositions, improvisatory passages and free playing. All of these mediums are equally open to expression and the challenge of performing in an uplifted or spiritual manner.
